George Harlin

George Parnell Harlin, 80, passed away peacefully at his home in Brinkley August 18, 2025. He was born in the family home of Pauline and Carl Harlin May 5, 1945 in Wheatley. He attended Brinkley Public Schools and even though he only received education through the 8th grade, George was a lifelong learner and hard worker.
He married his lifelong partner, Mary Rodgers on June 5, 1979 in Marianna. Together they made their home in Brinkley, where George contributed to his community through his work as a farmer. His hobbies were as diverse as his interests, ranging from fishing to hunting, along with working in his garden and witnessing the fruits of his labor.
In October 1965, George proudly served his country after being inducted into the United States Army. He worked as an electrician during his overseas service in Vietnam. He later transferred to the Army Reserves, reporting for annual training in St. Louis, Mo. George’s dedication and skill earned him accommodation for marksmanship with the M-14 rifle and the National Defense Medal. He was honorably discharged in September 1971.
Above all, George was a devoted family man, cherishing the times spent with loved ones, especially creating memories with his 44 grandchildren. His love for his family was the cornerstone of his life, and his legacy will live on through them.
He was preceded in death by  his parents, Carl and Pauline Harlin; son, Michael Paul Harlin; daughter, Carla Simon; and brother, Dale Harlin. Survivors are his loving wife of 50 years, Mary Harlin; sons, Thomas Rodgers (Amanda) of Higdon, Greg Harlin of Brinkley and Larry Don Harlin (Tabetha) of Moro; brother, Joe Harlin of Lonoke; and 44 grandchildren.
Visitation was August 21 at Bob Neal & Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Brinkley and services were on Friday, August 22 at the Arkansas State Veterans Cemetery at Birdeye.
