Billy “B.J.” Spears

April 09, 2025

Billy “B.J. Spears of Pearcy, formerly of Moro, passed away March 23, 2025 in Montgomery County at the age of 86. He was born September 6, 1938 in Moro to Huey and Flora Bell Spears.
B.J. modeled hard work. He grew up a sharecropper picking cotton as a child in east Arkansas for a quarter a day. He sold insurance. He built a chain of retail stores in which at one time he and his brother, Jessie Arnett, brought one of these stores to Brinkley. He owned a car dealership. He farmed, sold burial spaces and portable buildings and was a national guardsman. There wasn’t much he didn’t do. It’s difficult to overvalue things learned working alongside him in any capacity whether in the businesses, on the farm, selling insurance or portable buildings, building physical churches, or serving the local church.
He modeled faithfulness. He and his wife, Fay, were married 66 years and only death separated them. He modeled investment in the Kingdom of God. Churches dot the map in towns across the Midwest and South that the two of them have helped financially or otherwise. He also helped build a church in Mexico.
He loved his family deeply and was proud of all his kids, grandkids and great-grands. Everything he did was for his family and with them in mind.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Huey and Flora Bell Spears; and brothers, Jimmy Spears of Monroe, Marvin Spears of Greenbrier, and Jessie Arnett of Brinkley. Survivors are his wife of 66 years, Beulah Fay Spears of Pearcy; three daughters, Susan Anderson (Dennis) of Royal, AR, Charlotte Mason (Paul) of Pearcy, AR, and Belinda Boyer (Don) of Junction City, KS; nine grandchildren, Dennis Lee Anderson II (Fionna) of Fort Smith, Erica O’Connell (Kenneth) of Jonesboro, Christin Culberson (Will) of Royall, Jeremy Mason (Sally) of Pearcy, Brittany Simmons of Fountain Lake, Natalie Cloud (Kevin) of Hot Springs, Anna Boyer of Junction City, KS, Weston Boyer of Junction City, KS, and Austin Boyer (Sarah) of Junction City, KS; and nine great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were Saturday, March 29 at the Apostolic Faith Tabernacle in Pearcy. Burial was at Memorial Gardens in Pearcy March 31.
