Richard W. Coleman

December 18, 2024

Richard W. Coleman, 78, of Holly Grove, died on December 1, 2024, surrounded by his beloved daughters. Known to many as “Baba”, he was born
in 1946 to Bob and Evelyn Coleman in Monroe County. His early life growing up on the farm with his parents and five siblings was the source of many stories -- sometimes hilarious, sometimes shocking, but always entertaining.
As a young person, Richard excelled at sports, especially in football during his years at Holly Grove High School. He continued to play while matriculating at the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville and rooted for the Razorbacks the rest of his days.
After college, Richard went to work in sales and eventually the trucking business, but his greatest achievement was learning to be a good father to his
four children and an even better papaw to his grandchildren. They are the source of his biggest joy and greatest pride.
Throughout his life, Richard loved planting and tending to flowers and trees, tinkering with old cars and small machines, and playing golf with his buddies.
He traveled often between Arkansas, Memphis, and Nashville to visit friends and family, always offering to complete odd jobs or any tasks that were needed. Richard strived to be a good man who helped others.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two cherished brothers, William Robert Coleman, Jr. and John Thomas Coleman; brother-in-law Mike Booker;
son-in-law Brett Camper; and many family and friends.
He is survived by his loving daughters and sons-in-law: Amanda (Andrew) Schultz, Elizabeth (Neil) Roberts, Evelyn Anne Coleman, and Katherine
Coleman; the girls’ mother, Nancy Allen Coleman; his treasured grandchildren: Ethan, Caitlin, Jack, Ben, Abigail, Juliet, Violet, and Annabel; his longtime special friend, Angela Tillman, and her family: David and Jennifer Tillman (Avery and Charlie), Laurie and Bill Cunningham (Austin and Anna); his siblings: Judy Brooks, Kay Booker, and Howard (Julia) Coleman; sisters-in-law: Norma Coleman and Ann Coleman; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins,
and friends.
A special thank you to the staff of St Thomas Hospital West in Nashville, especiallythose in the CICU and Heart Failure Center, for the compassionate care given to Richard and his family over the past several months.
A graveside service will be held on December 14, 2024, at 11:00 am at McCurley Cemetery, Hwy. 366 in Holly Grove. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the National Parks Foundation, Arbor Day Foundation, American Heart Association, Montreat Conference Center (Montreat, NC), or the charity of your choosing.
