Audrey Vernell Washington Jones

Audrey Vernell Washington-Jones, 90, of Brinkley, Arkansas passed away on June 8, 2024 at her home.

Audrey was born on February 15, 1934 in Brinkley, Arkansas to Booker Washington Bessie Cade Washington.

Audrey was reared in a Christian home, and her faith in Christ was instilled in her at an early age. She would worship at the family church, Mt. Olive M.B. Church (currently Mt. Of Olives Ministries) in Brinkley, Arkansas, being a lifelong member. She was also a member of the choir.

Audrey matriculated in the Brinkley Public School System, receiving her education from the Marion Anderson School. Audrey was employed as a seamstress at Farris Fashion Factory in Brinkley, Arkansas for several years.

Possessing a gentle and kind spirit, Audrey was definitely a people person. She was a talented seamstress, and that aided her in her being a talented interior decorator. Audrey was a great cook and homemaker. She loved to dance, and she had a love for her fashionable hats. Her sweet spirit left its mark on the hearts of all she crossed paths with through the years.

On June 8, 2024, Audrey Vernell Washington-Jones answered God’s call to eternal life at her home. She was welcomed to Heaven by her parents (Booker & Bessie Washington), her husband Thomas Jones, her daughter Audalia Smith (U.S. Navy-San Diego, CA), her brothers, Booker Washington Jr., Enoch Washington, Willie Washington, & Joseph Washington, her sisters, Forzine Dorakins, Thelma Wynne, Virgil Timberlake, and Christine Aldridge.

Her memories will live within the hearts of her son Enoch (Patricia) Jones of Brinkley, AR, her brothers Floyd Washington of Brinkley, AR and Lewis Washington of Des Arc, AR, her sisters Shirley (Therman) Lee of Hot Springs, AR, Odessa Miller of Brinkley, AR, Viola Owens of West Memphis, AR, Amy Sloan of Little Rock, AR, and Bessie (James) Haygood of Little Rock, AR, and a host of nephews, nieces, and relatives and friends.

Public viewing will take place on Friday June 14, 2024 from 12 pm – 4 pm at Branscumb Funeral Home. Funeral will take place at 10 am Saturday June 15, 2024 at Mt. Of Olives Ministries, 1200 N.
