Carl Johnson

Mr. Carl Johnson, co-owner of Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley, was pardoned from life on August 25, 2023.
On May 8, 1949 in Monroe County, Arkansas, Mr. Levi Johnson Sr. and Maggie Johnson would welcome to the world a set of twins, daughter Carolyn, and son Carl Johnson.
Carl was reared in a Christian home and was baptized in Christ by Rev. Davis at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brinkley, Arkansas. Carl would remain a lifelong member of the church.
Carl received his education through the Marion Anderson School System, and was a 1968 graduate of Marion Anderson High School.
After graduating, Carl would enroll at Arkansas AM&N College (Currently UAPB) to further his education. After about a year of college, Carl made the brave decision to enlist in the United States Army in 1969. Carl would serve in Korea for about a year, and would receive his honorable discharge a year later. After his duty in the Army, Carl would meet Ms. Bonnie Neely of Osceola, Arkansas. The pair would wed in 1971 and would raise a family of three. Although the marriage ended several years later, the two would remain friends. Carl would move to Kansas City, Missouri where he attended Pratt Business School, earning a degree in Computer Science. After finishing business school, Carl would return to Arkansas and begin his career at the National Center for Toxicological Research in Pine Bluff. After about a year, he would accept a position working for the United States Government working at the Arsenal at Pine Bluff. Carl would continue working there for the next 30 plus years before retiring. In the mid 1990’s, he would start his own business venture, “Double Click Computers”, where he specialized in computers, from sales to repair. In 2000, Carl and his siblings would purchase Branscumb Funeral Home from Ms. Barbara Wallace. Over the next couple of decades, they would take the business to new levels.
Carl was a mild mannered guy who enjoyed the “country life”. He was a profound equestrian, and cared for several of his own horses throughout the years. Carl loved hunting, playing cards with friends, watching sports, and listening to blues and jazz music. Carl was a very wise man who always shared wisdom when needed.
On August 26, 2023, God saw fit to take from this walk of life, His son Carl Johnson. He sent the Angels to his home in Pine Bluff and they retrieved his soul. Awaiting his arrival in Beulah Land were his parents, Levi Sr. and Maggie Johnson, his son Carl D. Johnson, and his sister Venita Johnson-Burley.
Left to cherish his memories are his son Elliott Johnson and daughter LaToya Johnson both of Ferguson, MO; his twin sister Carolyn Johnson-Gilchrest of Brinkley, AR; brother’s Levi Johnson Jr. of Brinkley, AR, Glayton Johnson of Pine Bluff, AR, Curtis (Doris) Johnson of West Memphis, AR, and Paul (Linda) Pighee of Cedar Hill, TX; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, and friends.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday September 9, 2023 at 1 pm at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Brinkley. Burial will take place at Haven of Rest Cemetery in Brinkley by Branscumb Johnson & Gilchrest Funeral Home of Brinkley.
