Monroe County Library June 16th Program included First Responders
Monroe County Library had special guest son June 16! The special guest reader, Adam Ellis read "Wild About Books." Clarendon Fireman, John Cook, was a special guest and presented each child with a junior firefighter card and activity book and talked to them about fire safety. The children enjoyed getting to sit in the firetruck and see all the equipment. The Clarendon Police Chief, Nolan Woodell, was also a special guest. He presented each child with a junior police badge sticker and spoke to them about 911 and gun safety. The children enjoyed seeing inside the police truck and one even volunteered to be handcuffed.
After this outside activity, children cooled off with popsicles. Tricia Rogers read "The Kindness Quilt" and children made and colored their own kindness quilt blocks. The program closed with the traditional Clap Your Hands exercise book. The children turned in reading journals and had read 48 books that week for a total of 50 books at that point in the summer. Prize winners today were Lindsey Cook and Camden Brewer, who each received a jump rope and box of sidewalk chalk. Each child was given a treat bag of healthy snacks and a juice drink donated by Ronnie and Tricia Rogers. There were 13 children and 16 adults in attendance. Thanks to helpers Laci Johnson and Lauren Turner and all our guests.
